Are you the manager or administrator of several Joomla! websites? Are they part of your reseller plan, or hosted under your main domain, or are they completely remote sites?
The Joomla! team lately has been coming out with more recent updates, which is a good thing for security purposes, but it tends to slow you down when you have to update several remote sites. First, you have to log into each site to see which version is currently installed. Then you have to download the correct update package. Next, you have to unpack the download. A good administrator will then backup the live site before updating, and then FTP into the site so you can upload the updated files.
To help ease the update process, 4Christ Ministry has been in quite development of a component designed to help check, backup and update remote Joomla! installations. In short, we are working on a component that will help you manage all your remote Joomla! installations.
Currently, we are about 45-50% complete with the major coding for the component. At the current rate of development, we should expect to have a working alpha release in the next couple months.
With your help, we might be able to greatly speed this development up. But we need more help.
If you would like to contribute to this project, or would like to be placed on a list of testers, please contact us through our contact form or by responding directly to this article. Let us know how you would like to help - whether you would like to help develope the code, or if you would like to donate some graphics, pre-alpha, alpha or beta test, etc. Any and all help is welcome!
What do you say, Joomla! community?
